A couple openings for an exclusive polar bear trip on a chartered icebreaker in August 2013

Ever since photographing polar bears in Churchill, I've been looking for a way to get a good look at these amazing creatures -- preferably without the circus that Fall in Churchill has become. My schedule hasn't ever allowed me to put a trip together, but my good friends Brennan, Steve and Dana have done exactly that. They're using a custom-fitted icebreaker in the North Atlantic, and have had great success.

They've got 2 openings for their August, 2013 trip. I've provided some details below, but if you're interested in making it happen (the trip isn't inexpensive at $13K, so be prepared to spend some money), then let Brennan () know I've referred you.

Both Dana Allen and Rinie Van Meurs will be with us on the trip.  Rinie van Meurs will be co-leading the expedition, and is one of the best current polar experts, while also being a professional photographer.  Rinie has written three books already on the Polar regions, and along with Dana will provide for an exceptional experience.

There will be a MAXIMUM of 12 guests on the ship plus the crew.  All plans and arrangements will be customized with Rinie, Dana, and the ship’s captain.
Zodiac excursions will take place as needed based on sightings and terrain to be visited, visiting the bird colonies, walrus groups, and polar bears on the shore.

The fantastic part is we are free to plan any changes in the itinerary based on local conditions and preferences of the group.

The trip includes all land costs (hotel in Longyearbyen) and group dinner on the evening of the 6th from Longyearbyen, to departure on the 17th.  On the morning of the 7th, we will be visiting the local museum and also having lunch  before boarding the expedition vessel.
