While the overall DSLR market isn’t super-healthy, and any number of vendors have been slowing down their rate of product introductions, Sigma Photo has been able to churn out impressive new lenses on a regular basis. This month brought four more – three in its high-end Art series, and one super telephoto in its Contemporary series. The Art lenses are a 14mm f/1.8 HSM, a 24-70mm f/2.8 HSM with OS, and a 135mm f/1.8 HSM. In the Contemporary line there is a 100-400mm super-zoom f/5-6.3 HSM with OS. All of the lenses are “DG,” so they will work on both full-frame and APS-C sensors.

The 24-70mm zoom is a true workhorse for many of us, so I’m really looking forward to giving this new version a try. If it is a good as Sigma’s other Art lenses, it will like replace my current favorite – the Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8. It’s hard to tell from the announcement where the super-zoom will fit compared to the Nikon 80-400mm AF-S VR lens, Nikon 200-500mm, Tamron 150-600, and Sigma 150-600 lenses in terms of performance. One interesting feature is that it has both a twist zoom and a push/pull zoom. I’ll be very curious to see how that works! All of the lenses will be available in Nikon, Canon, and of course Sigma mounts.
