There is no doubt that Nikon’s 1-series cameras are cute, fun, and have great features. However, they’ve had a hard time winning against the larger sensor and better image quality of models from other makers – especially Sony. Nikon is working to change that with its newest model – the . The new model has an updated 20.8MP sensor, and improved EXPEED 5A image processing chip. The body has been updated to provide a better grip, raised controls, and a “pebbled” exterior. Price for the body-only is $497 for pre-order at B&H, with kits including lenses ranging from $800 to $1100.

Nikon has introduced a slew of new products aimed at a variety of different groups of photographer. At the high-end, the gets a makeover and a price increase to $12,000. The updated features improved surface coatings and weather proofing (I definitely plan to order one, but check to see ). Nikon has also upped its game in the compact mirrorless market with the new body – featuring 20 fps shooting with a zillion AF points. Nikon’s compact interchangeable lens camera line, Nikon 1, has met with decidedly mixed success. Its small-size, extensive features, and reasonable pricing have made it a popular backup or “pocket-size” alternative to a full-size DSLR.
